hellothisisalex is Mark Prier and Melissa Creasey, two new-school analogue kids from smalltown Ontario. Initially motivated by songwriters like Brian Wilson and Syd Barrett, the duo began composing music predominantly using synthesizers, trying to achieve a similar kind of neurotic cohesion without relying on fanatic tribute or duplication. "We have a slight bent towards the neurotic, quirky and self-destructing musicians in general," Mark laughs.

Without knowing what direction this approach would take them, the pair's unique musical personality emerged. Half grounded in psychedelic pop, half grounded in modern electronica, their music remains removed from either genre. As Mark states, "We're not trying to achieve some kind of crossover, we just don't really see a reason to separate the two. We listen to all different kinds of music, so why wouldn't we let all of it influence the music we make? One musician uses a guitar, another a sampler or a computer, another uses just the voice and so on. We use synthesizers. The aim is still music."
