All at Once
Light-hearted popsong.
Grapes of Grain hail from Utrecht, The Netherlands and were born in August 2006.
It started out as a project of singer Alexis Vos, but after the release of the debut EP ‘Depending on the Weather’ a band was formed. The line-up compromises Berend Jan Ike (guitar, vocals), Ruben Bazuin (bass), Arno Breuer (drums) and Stefan Breuer (piano, banjo).
The group plays melodic, intimate guitar pop. Sometimes rocky, sometimes folky.
Influences are drawn from the likes of Ryan Adams, R.E.M., Josh Rouse and Pavement.
After the subdued and gentle sounds of the well-received first EP (which gained them national airplay and was released in Italy by the label Best Kept Secret), ‘Balloons from the Blue’ shows that the band has a lot more dynamics to them.
The new EP features five songs that showcase their range of abilities. From melancholic acoustic ballads and epic alt-country to cheerful sing-along’s.
The songs are well crafted, tightly arranged and employ instruments like the pedal steel, trumpet, accordion and violin. Lyrically, it’s all about the hangovers you can get from drinking, girls, dreams, work and growing older.
The five-piece performs frequently throughout The Netherlands and has toured the UK successfully in August 2007. In April the band will visit France for a 10 day tour. The EP is released by the Dutch record label Snowstar Records.
